Rare mahogany drumhead case with a fluted column on a five sided base and with a nicely carved hood cresting.
Painted 12 inch circular Roman dial with subsidiary seconds and date dials.
8-Day 2-train weight driven movement, strilking the hours on a bell.

Antique French industrial nautical desk clock

Antique gilt and silvered-bronze nautical desk clock compendium.


French circa 1890


The case is formed by two ship's wheels with finely turned spokes mounted to a capstan with the barometer mounted on the reverse and a compass above. The whole is mounted to a wheel held in place by two spring loaded clicks mounted to an onyx base, this allows the top section to rotate and view both dials.


The timepiece eight-day movement is wound and set from the back plate, it has the original high quality balance platform. The aneroid barometer is removed to access the clock movement.
Both porcelain dials are signed James & Sons, Paris, the clock dial has Roman numerals for the hours, Arabic numbers for the five-minute marks and Breguet style, steel  hands. The barometer dial with weather indications and steel indicator with a brass set pointer, and also signed with the barometer maker's initials, 'AER'.


AER, Antoine Redier is probably best known for his enamelled globe clocks and alarm clocks, he was also involved in the production of Aneroid barometers.

W&H Antique lantern clock with ting tang quarter strike

8-day movement marked W & H Sch striking the quarters on 2 bells, one inside the case the second on the top of the clock and striking the hour on the top bell.
Conventional brass lantern clock case, the 2 side doors with applied sunburst decoration and the back door with cloth covered sound aperture.

W & H. Sch. Winterhalder and Hofmeier of Schwarzenbach Germany
Winterhalder and Hofmeier are possibly the most famous of the German Victorian clockmakers. The firm was started by Anton Winterhalder in Schwarzenbach, Germany in 1810, taking Anton Hofmeier into partnership in 1850, with the business finally closing on the death of Winterhalder's last son Linus in 1910. A large part of their output was made for Britain and the quality of movements and cases is always very high as seen in this example.
