A 6 meter sycamore pond yacht

A large decorative pond yacht

Last sailed in 2001.

Circa 1940. 'Ariane'

With single mast and twin sail, planked deck and coopered hull.

Now fitted with electronic gearing, with the original braine gearing retained.

82 inches high, 52" long, 10.25" beam.

on 8" high stand with cupboard.

This model of a six meter racing yacht originally named 'Catherine' and now named 'Ariane' was built by Mr. Andrew Arthur, a Shetlander living in Edinburgh and a member of the Inverleith Model Boat Club. She was registered in 1947 by the Scottish Model Yacht Registry as No. 6M/506.

Mr. Arthur died in 1955 and the model was acquired by A.W. Kirkland in 1972, who reconditioned her and raced her again. Mr. Kirkland converted her to radio control in 2001 and gave her a new set of sails

Based on the Scott Memorial in Princess St, Edinburgh, Scotland.

Standing on it's original marble base and covered by a re-placement, antique glass dome.

In 1850 Evans produced his famous skeleton clock which was based on the Scott Memorial. This was shown at the great exhibition 1851 The clock proved to be extremely popular and he started to produce them in limited numbers.
