This model of a six meter racing yacht originally named 'Catherine' and now named 'Ariane' was built by Mr. Andrew Arthur, a Shetlander living in Edinburgh and a member of the Inverleith Model Boat Club. She was registered in 1947 by the Scottish Model Yacht Registry as No. 6M/506.
Mr. Arthur died in 1955 and the model was acquired by A.W. Kirkland in 1972, who reconditioned her and raced her again. Mr. Kirkland converted her to radio control in 2001 and gave her a new set of sails

Both the brass pendulum and weight are original and in very nice condition, as well as the case carvings and top pediment.
THESE CLOCKS ARE VERY RARE IN SCOTLAND. MADE AS AN APPRENTICE PIECE. THIS CASE IS AN EXACT COPY OF A FULL SIZE LONGCASE CLOCK. EVERY DETAIL HAS BEEN SCALED DOWN TO MAKE A MINIATURE VERSION OF THE ORIGINAL. IT IS ONLY 48 INCHES HIGH.

The detail in the case is very exact, down to the hoods sliding lock, the inlay and cross banding. The clock case was made in the Dundee or Tayside / Angus area.
When made 200 years ago, it wouldn’t have had a clock works. It now has a weight driven movement and a painted dial.
The hood with fully formed inlaid swan neck pediments and reeded side pillars. The case with figured mahogany trunk door and cross banding, flanked by reeded pillars. The cross-banded base with figured mahogany central panel, sitting on bracket feet. It has it’s original trunk door lock and key.
The 6.75 inch painted dial has painted flowers in the arch and spandrels, Roman numerals and pierced steel hands.
The 8 day movement. Circa 1890. Is weight driven and strikes the hours and the halves on a bell and is. In full working order. It has brass weights, long pendulum and crank winding key.
