Antique Skeleton Clock, Scott Memorial, Edinburgh. Circa 1860. William Frederick Evans of Handsworth (Birmingham) The skeletonised frame modelled on the Scott Memorial in Princess St, Edinburgh, Scotland. The spired frame with four buttresses and a cast gilded figure of Sir Walter Scott and his dog in the centre. Finely pierced silvered chapter ring with Roman numerals and trefoil hands. The 8-day single chain fusee movement with six spokes wheels, anchor escapement and with its original cylinder bob pendulum. Standing on its original marble base and covered by an antique glass dome. In 1850 Evans produced his famous skeleton clock which was based on the Scott Memorial. This was shown at the great exhibition 1851 the clock proved to be extremely popular he then started to produce them in limited numbers. 22 inches high 10 wide 9 deep
